Getting Perspective

A quarter of a year may seem like a long time when you're looking forward to something, but when you're trying to work on a big project, it's not enough time to get all the things done. After three months, I wouldn't blame you if you thought I had forgotten about this newsletter, but the truth is quite the opposite. For the past 13 weeks I've been agonizing about what I could possibly put into this silly little update that would be worth your time. I've been learning and doing so much, but it feels like I have almost nothing to show for it. If I could show you all the wrinkles I've formed in my brain over the past 94 days I would, but you'll have to settle for what I have here.

Remember this little guy? I've spent more time than I care to admit trying to get this animation to look right. A lot of that time was spent futzing with justsketchme, an online sketch model that's a little fiddly, but super helpful if you don't have one of the wooden ones.

Speaking of sketching, I bought myself a Cintiq as a birthday / you're-a-professional-now-you-should-have-professional-tools present. I was trying to use my tablet, or good old fashioned pen and paper, to sketch previously, but the whole process of transferring images from where I created the them to where I wanted to use/modify the art was creating unnecessary friction. I'm still getting used to it, but I can already tell that this little piece of tech is making me much more productive.

So, apropos of nothing,  I decided to update my website to be more accessible, and while I was doing so, I thought to myself, "Why not redo most of the functionality and art on the site too?" So, yeah, that's something I spent another ridiculous amount of time on. I would add a screenshot, but it doesn't really make sense out of context. You should just go check it out. Also, if you're interested in accessible websites, you should check out the axe checker.

That's pretty much everything I have to show you. I've also been learning how to use LMMS and how to make video game music and sound effects and all sorts of fun audio stuff that unfortunately isn't really ready to be shared at this point. As soon as I do have something worth sharing, I'll be posting it on my Soundcloud profile. Right now there's not much on there, just one song of me playing guitar, and a very slow version of the same song made using PaulStretch.

If you don't want to wait another 3 months for me to send a newsletter, feel free to also follow me on Twitter. I tend to post there slightly more often, but no guarantees on the quality of the content I post.

Thanks again for coming along for the ride. We're just building momentum for the for the long haul, it may be a bumpy road, but we'll get there eventually.

Please add to your email address if you don't want these emails to go to your spam filter. If you don't want to receive this newsletter anymore, you can unsubscribe here. If you want to subject others to this nonsense, send them over to and I'll take it from there.
